Overview

This 11-day tour is designed in a way to take you on an imaginary time machine travel from modern times busy and metropolitan capital Yerevan towards northern cities of Armenia, where you will directly feel the drastic change influenced by a strong footprint and breath of Soviet era, then to early Christian times with rich Armenian heritage and its vivid examples of UNESCO World Heritage sites Geghard and Haghpat Monasteries, then back to pagan times (1-2 centuries) with the only preserved pagan temple in the region Garni, and further back to 3rd millennium BC. with the Areni Cave and its wine barrels. And this perturbing contrast will surely give you a wider spectrum of emotions! 
To make your first encounter with the most genuine and authentic Armenian cuisine more impressive, we included in the tour a master class dinner with the most respected and demanded chef of today’s Armenia, Mr. Sedrak. Get your taste buds spoiled while trying the famous Armenian Cognac that Churchill loved immensely.

Itinerary

Welcome to Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. Our tour guide will greet you and will help you with all the ground handling services. After a welcome briefing meeting with the tour guide, you will check in to your hotel. 
Lunch will be in “Lavash” Restaurant for your first encounter with the delicious and authentic Armenian cuisine.
Time to explore the Armenian capital, located in the shadow of the biblical Mount Ararat, it is one of the oldest cities in the world. You will have a stroll in the heart of the capital and explore The Republic Square, Cascade, Opera House. Past the radio ‘‘Yerevan‘‘. Then drive to the impressive Cascade - in the heart of the city. From this location, you have a panoramic view of the whole capital. 
Visit Megerian Carpet factory with participation in traditional Armenian food preparation master class with one of the most demanded and famous chefs Mr. Sedrak Mamoulian. 
After dinner, we will have free time in Yerevan. Evening Yerevan is another highlight that you should include in your must-see list. Cafes and bars are full of locals at night. Join them for a glass of local Armenian wine. You’ll not regret it.

It’s important that you attend the welcome meeting, as we will be distributing details and next of kin information such as brochures with useful info about Yerevan and Armenia, maps, places to eat and things and activities to do around. 
Our best piece of Cycling equipment advice is a simple one – Bring your own gear with you! We do provide bicycles; however, the experienced cyclist will know that in order to get the best experience, you need to have your own gear and accessories with you. 
The bus accompanies the group all the times. In case any of the participants is tired or for any other reason wants to continue the program by bus, he may choose to do so. Spare parts and technical support of bikes are available at all times.

The beautiful morning starts with an acclimatization bike tour to Saghmosavank Monastery, situated in the Kasagh Gorge. 
A breathtaking view opens right in front of you, facing directly to Biblical Mount Ararat. The monastery dates back to the 13th century, where the psalms were composed. This is where the name of the monastery is derived from.

Another great day ahead. Our today’s program includes visiting the city of Aparan, one of the oldest cities in Armenia (2nd century) and its famous basilica The Holly Cross Church (4th century). We thought you would love to stop by and spend some time with the local priest. 
After a warm welcome from the locals, we continue our tour by biking over the Spitak Pass. The horizon will be decorated by a gently grazed plateau with Yezidi villages. 
We will pass through the cities of Spitak and Vanadzor. The last two were unfortunately destroyed in 1988 by the severe earthquake.

Altitude from sea level: 2000 - 2200 - 1300m

Our first cycling stage leads through a hilly landscape. We start cycling from Vanadzor until Alaverdi in Lori Region. The Lori province is known to be the greenest part of Armenia. Here as an optional activity we offer Rafting on the river Debed.
Enjoy almost 90 minutes and 11km of rafting through the amazing landscapes and have that adventure thrill on the river Debed. The daring travelers can also choose to jump from the bridge or slide on the raft into the river for a wider spectrum of emotions. Your Rafting guide will take amazing pictures and videos and share them with you. 
Those who are not into Rafting, will have a small hike to Kobayr Monastery as a little tour. The steep climb takes 10 to 15 minutes. Perched above the hamlet of Kobayr is the 12th-century monastery of the same name. The main church has some partially restored Georgian-style frescoes and a detached 13th-century bell tower. There are also three chapels, one with a scenic circular balcony. Behind the main church is a beautiful slow-dripping waterfall that's also worth seeing.
After that we hop on the bus to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sanahin Monastery. The Monastery was renowned for its school of illuminators and calligraphers and also for its medical school. Its name means ‘older than that one’, referring to nearby Haghpat Monastery.
Next Stop is at domed basilica Odzun from the 6th century. Overnight will be in Haghpat.

For those who would like to do rafting as an optional activity, please make sure to have extra dry clothes to get changed, and a small towel to dry. It is recommended to have rubber water shoes or similar closed shoes proper for the activity.

Today we start our cycling towards Haghpat Monastery. In the lush forest area of ​​Armenia, with its inaccessible villages, are the most important monasteries and educational institutions of the Middle Ages. The harmonious coordination of the buildings erected one after the other is an architectural masterpiece. In the middle of nowhere, on a high plateau with a dramatic view, we find the Monastery of Haghpat (10th century, UNESCO World Heritage). We will continue cycling towards Ijevan where we visit another beautiful Monastery Makaravank. This 13th century Monastery is one of the most significant Medieval Armenian religious architectural monuments.

Altitude from sea level: 1200 - 550m

Take an early stroll across the market in Ijevan, then continue cycling through a densely forested hilly landscape to Goshavank Monastery (12th-13th century) and Haghartsin Monastery (13th century). These are perfect examples of Armenian architecture. Here we can enjoy the beauty of the Armenian cross-stones and not only. We cycle all the way towards another lush and beautiful region – Dilijan.
Those who want to spice up their cycling day can choose to depart towards “Yell” Extreme Adventure theme park by bus led by a tour leader, where they can have lots of fun, various activities and adventure. Among many activities you may choose hiking in Lastiver caves (approx. 8km), horseback riding in breathtaking nature, adrenaline rush Zip Line, Via Ferrata rock climbing and much more. After your amazing day, the bus will take you to Dilijan to join the rest of the group for dinner.
Our day ends in the beautiful city of Dilijan that is sometimes referred to as the forest kingdom of Armenia. In this cozy town, you can find vivid examples of traditional wooden house architecture.

Today's bike path leads to Lake Sevan. In contrast to the lush green area around Dilijan, the mountains become bare - we reach an impressive landscape around 1,900 m high where the Lake Sevan is greeting us. Its cool, turquoise blue water invites you to swim during the summer season. 
On the Sevan Peninsula, we visit Sevanavank Monastic complex, which dates back to the 9th century. Almost no visit to Armenia is complete without visiting one of the highest mountainous lakes in the world. Get ready to tick off another bucket list location in Armenia.
After the Sevan Lake tour we continue our cycling towards Tsapatagh.
For the lovers of high sky we offer in Sevan an amazing Paragliding adventure as an optional activity at extra cost. A must do when visiting Armenia, with Armenia`s leading experts in tandem paragliding flights. The team of highly qualified and professional pilots will make sure to give you the experience of a lifetime.
The bus will stay with the paragliding group and bring them back to join the rest of the group after the activity.

It's time to say goodbye to the lake and change the region. We will reach the Selim pass by bus and start our cycling day. Our path goes 25 km uphill through the winding steppe-like landscape, over the Selim pass. Soon from the far, we can observe Orbelyan caravanserai from the 14th century. At an altitude of 2,410m, we enjoy a mesmerizing view of Armenian Highland. Here once passed the famous trade route - The Silk Road. Overnight in Vayk.

Altitude from sea level: 1955 - 2450 - 1220m

Drive to the province of Vayots Dzor. Viticulture in this region goes back to the 3rd millennium BC. In Areni1 cave wine barrels were discovered with traces of wine from ancient times. The endemic grapevine Areni grows here, from which the famous red wine "Areni" is made. Visit the Monastery of Noravank, located at the end of the beautiful canyon of Amaghu, which impresses with its unique exterior relief and its reddish facade. The monastery just melts with its surroundings.
After that we drive to Garni, which was the summer residence of the Armenian kings and is famous for being the only pagan temple (1st century) that has survived in the Caucasus. It was dedicated to the God Mitra, the God of the Sun.
Our next stop is Geghard Monastery (UNESCO Heritage): visit the cave monastery at the end of a ravine, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Armenia. The legend says the name Geghard was given to them monastery as the legendary spear - “Geghard'' that pierced Christ was brought there. All three spots deserve to be included in your travel bucket list.
Continue to Yerevan after your delicious dinner in Garni.

You can use your free time and go to the Vernissage for souvenirs. Vernissage: Yerevan’s Flea Market is probably one of the best open-air markets in world. It is called Vernissage (varnishing, from French) — a term used for a preview of an art exhibition. A visit to the market will make the day more beautiful where you will find everything. It offers various kinds of nice national souvinirs, jewelry and other traditional items.

The Vernissage is the right place to get little taste of Armenia and a special spot to witness the fusion between national traditions and modern taste.
